    What is ''bullion'' ?

The term "bullion" generally refers to precious metals in bar or coin form. The demand for precious metals is driven not only by their practical use but also by their role as investments and a store of value. Historically, precious metals have commanded much higher prices than common industrial metals. The two most prominent bullion metals are gold and silver but other popular bullion metals include platinum and palladium. Typically gold and silver are venues to diversify investments in a volatile market.

    Canadian Gold Maple Leaf

The Canadian Gold Maple Leaf is the official bullion gold coin of Canada, and is produced by the Royal Canadian Mint. The Gold Maple Leaf is one of the purest gold bullion coins in the world. The first Gold Maple Leaf was produced in 1979 and coins minted from 1979 to October 1982 have a purity of 99.9%. Since November 1982 the regular issue coins have been produced using gold refined to a purity of 99.99%. More recently, special edition 1 troy ounce .99999 pure gold maple leafs have been produced. Gold Maple Leafs are offered in 1⁄20 troy ounce, 1/15 troy ounce (1994 only), 1⁄10 troy ounce, 1⁄4 troy ounce, 1⁄2 troy ounce, and 1 troy ounce weights. The coins have face values of $1, $2, $5, $10, $20 and $50 respectively. The design of the smaller Gold Maple Leaf fractions is the same as the 1 troy ounce coin. The Gold Maple Leaf has the highest premium over the gold spot price when purchasing, due to its popularity and international appeal.

The Canadian Silver Maple Leaf is a silver bullion coin issued annually by the government of Canada and is one of the most popular bullion coins in the world. The coin has been minted by the Royal Canadian Mint since 1988. The face value of the 1 troy ounce coin is $5, the highest among international silver bullion coins. The purity of the coin is 99.99% silver, which is also the highest purity among international bullion silver. The coin generally always features a maple leaf of the same design. Annual variations for the coin in past have included proof releases (1989 only), privy marks, a coloured maple leaf (with a design different from the regular maple leaf), holographic enhancements, and various slight modifications of the regular design, such as a 2009 issue commemorating the 2010 Vancouver Winter Olympics. The Silver Maple Leaf has the highest premium over the silver spot price when purchasing, due to its popularity and international appeal.

    Gold Bar

Gold bars are one of the most basic gold bullion products available. They are produced using refined gold and generally bear a stamp featuring the company which manufactured it. Some of the companies which produce gold bars include Johnson & Matthey (J & M), Scotiabank, Credit Suisse, the Royal Canadian Mint, and the Perth Mint. Gold bars are produced in varying weights including: 1 gram, 100 gram, 1000 gram (1 kilogram), 1 troy ounce, 2 troy ounce, 5 troy ounce, 10 troy ounce, and 100 troy ounce. Generally the purity of a gold bar is at least 99% or higher and it has no face value.

  • Our Commemoratives

In 2017, Citadel Coins began striking their own coins and medals. To celebrate Canada 150 we took original uncirculated 1967 silver dollars and counterstruck a limited amount with original designs for the 150th anniversary of Canada, the 50th anniversary of he last silver dollar struck for circulation as well as various other important anniversaries, including: the 100th anniversary of the Halifax Explosion in 1917 and the Battle of Vimy Ridge, the 70th anniversary of the last coinage struck for Newfoundland, the 300th anniversary of Freemasonry, plus a special strike for the City of Halifax.

Although these counterstrikes were only available in our shop and through word of mouth, the response was overwhelming as collectors from across the country were eager to add them to their collections.Since then, we have designed and struck several uni-face medals for themes like Nova Scotia's part in the First World War, the Halifax Explosion and Rum Running, just to name a few. All of our medals are available in fine silver, but some are also available in copper and brass.
